To the Core

Working with the wisdom our body holds

Our bodies hold wisdom. Together, we take a moment to listen.
Ella

The idea of To the Core has been growing for a long time. I wanted to create a space to share some of my learnings, offer a holistic approach and possibly connect with other people in this way.

I love the part where I can set my mind to work, as well as having an immediate practical implication of my work. I have learnt and keep learning so much with my patients. I keep being humbled by their trust that is given.
As I keep learning, my practise keeps evolving. I have always been curious about what our bodies might be trying to tell us.

About To the Core

With a continuous curiousity I kept wondering why I saw such a big difference between what we have learned in theory and what we see in real life patients in the practise. I kept studying, learning and searching for answers to bridge this gap. I found a more holistic approach suiting, where we do not only look into the physical symptoms, but also take into account the lived experience of a person as a whole, to look into different layers at what is going on at the core. Not pretending to know everything, dedicated to stay curious and open to learn.

From inspiration from my patients to patterns I learned to recognise to tools I use myself, this is a space to share some of my learnings.

I am convinced our bodies hold wisdom. Together, we take a moment to listen.

About me

I grew up in Ghent, Belgium and as a child I spend a lot of time outdoors after school. I was lucky to try out many different sports and it was a great way to get my energy out. During high school I entered a ladies rugby team and found my place amongst a fantastic group of women. I kept playing for years, later switching to touch rugby after my first ACL reconstuction.

I started doing physio work during studies at local rugby tournaments to gain experience and took the chance to assist in the national womens U18 team, with additional physio training in immediate care and concussions for healthcare professionals.
In my 1st master year I went to do an exchange internship in Portugal and received excellent guidance by the leading physiotherapists who taught me a framework I still use today.

After graduation, I started studying osteopathy next to work as I kept being curious about underlying causes of injuries. Osteopathy deepened my knowledge about manual interventions and introduced me to visceral and cranial therapy, which have become an important part of my practice.

2 years later, a travel adventure was calling and I set off towards New Zealand with my best friend. I was in awe with the nature and felt right at home outdoors. We visited different countries and spend quite some time with locals which is what I find the most enriching part of travelling.
Coming back just before lock-down, a friend who worked in Switzerland got in touch and a few months later I was learning German to started working in canton Solothurn. I joined an amazing team of touch rugby in Bern and got to be part of the womens national team, first as a player and after a second ACL injury I could join them as a physio. It was such an amazing experience to become part of the Touch family in Switzerland.
During my knee rehabilitation, I moved to my current location in Vevey, closer to the mountains.

Reiki and writing

My knee rehabilitations showed me the value of our work from the view of being a patient myself. My physio friends assisted me in many ways: next to months of physical rehab, they lifted my spirits and inspired me to find new challenges along the way.

A friend introduced me to energy healing and as I was becoming more aware of my sensitivity I ended up following a reiki course. These classes changed my life as it felt like I finally found a way to direct my gift of sensitivity. For the first time I found myself being fully present in my body. Ever since, I have been practicing reiki and I taught my first reiki classes. I feel honoured every time when I receive the trust to share this with someone.

I also started writing more as a way of processing life events and expressing myself. Even as I picked up on sports after a full recovery, I keep returning to many of the practises I picked up on during rehabilitation. Afterwards I can see the immense power in this forced introspective period. I share some of my writings on substack.
In May, I was diagnosed with lung cancer. The oncologist referred me for reeducation. I was seen by Ella, who was kind and gentle. Alongside exercises, Ella offered me reiki to support my physical and mental wellbeing. She helped to promote mental and emotional clarity, as well as my spiritual wellbeing. I feel light and in great shape. A big thank you to Ella Stallaerts.
